  • Caribbean Cruise
  • Second week of back 2 back
  • Caribbean Princess
February 7th - 15th, 2010
(cruise was 7th - 14th)
Ports of Call:
San Juan, Puerto Rico; St Thomas, VI; Tortola, BVI; Antigua;
St. Lucia; Barbados; back to San Juan, Puerto Rico

Since we were on a back 2 back, we never left the ship in port at San Juan. Instead - since it was Superbowl Sunday, we saved our spots for the best seats at the Movie Under the Stars. Check out Bob sitting in our seats for the Super bowl. Front row, middle level, center. lol Look close!

We was impressed at the job the Caribbean Princess did for the Super Bowl game. A packed house and while the game played, they served popcorn, pizza, chicken wings, among other things. You never had to leave your seat. Below you will see photos from the game seen on the big screen.

Today, it was back to St. Thomas, VI. We had booked a tour to St. Johns for snorkeling at Trunk Bay but had to cancel. So it was off to the new restaurant called Jumbees BBQ joint for $4.00 internet for the day. Bob was able to get a lot of work done. This week we were again docked at Crown Bay, 30 minute walk away from town.

Next it was off to the port of Tortola in the British Virgin Isles. This was a port we had never been to so we decided to do the Island/Pusser Landing tour with the ship. Cost $39 per person. Tortola is just a ferry boat away from St. Thomas and St. Johns. It is surrounded by many islands. The island is very hilly with steep roads and hair pin turns - at times very dangerous. Below you will see photos from all around the island. It seems every time you turned a corner, there was another beautiful beach. On the drive we saw Garden Bay Park when we stopped for some shopping. We also went by Long Beach, Carrot Bay and a drive by Bomba Shack (a must see and on all tours) We saw a wall that had taken years to paint by many locals and it kinda gave the history of Totola. Then it was off to Soper's Hole and/or Pussers Landings for shopping and looking around. It is more a place where many sailboats and yachts come in for a stay. There is a dive shop among all the stores and restaurants there. We took Road Town road back to the main city where our ship was docked. There, they had many "straw market" type shopping right off the ship so last minute shopping could be done last minute. This was an absolutely beautiful port of call.

Next - off to St. Johns, Antigua. We have been to this port many times -so we decided to head to the internet shop we always use. It is a few blocks from the pier in an upstairs home with only three computers. At $4 an hour - Bob was able to catch up on work. Then back to the ship. We did get to see a unique thing. On each side of our ship were luxury liners docked. A German ship to our right while on the left was the Crystal Symphony.

On to our next port - St. Lucia. Many say this is their favorite port but this is another port we have visited many times. Matter fact - one of my worst memories is panicking in St. Lucia. Today we walked off the ship, did some shopping, internet ($4 an hour) and headed back on the ship. Great day for some sun by the pool with less people around.

Barbados was our next port of call. There is just something about this island we love. We even recommended to my son, Daniel, when he got married and they spent their honeymoon there and loved it also. Beautiful beaches along with a fun island to drive around. Today, we would do some walking. So off the ship we went into town. Walked by the church, fish market and on into town. By the statues in town and across the main bridge. By Independence Square and even a quick stop in the Library for some free internet. Then off to a beautiful beach. The pier out into the water had a rope swing that everyone was enjoying. Absolutely stunning water with its turquoise color. Beautiful. From there it was back across the bridge, down the boardwalk at the canal and back to the ship. What a lovely day to get out and walk around a beautiful island. Even though you can walk off the ship into the main terminal, they have a free shuttle that will take you. With all our ports of call visited - its time to check out this weeks activities. Since the broadway/vegas type shows were the same - we did alot of movies under the stars and other entertainment. We were able to enjoy the "quick change" entertainment that was seen on American's Got Talent and performed for our president. Also in the atrium we saw a comedian/juggler.

And Princess is known for its Tropical Island Party. With the countdown and the streamers, it is like New Years all over again. With my new best friends; Bev, Brenda, Irene, and Pam - we danced the night away. From the Island party to the line dancing and on to the disco it was a night of dancing and fun. Lets just say we put the ship to sleep this night. lol

And even though the cruise critic meeting was not at the best time - a few were able to attend. (it was during the stop at St. Thomas) So here is a small part of the group on our second week of this Caribbean Princess cruise.
Our second week of dining in the Traditional dining room brought us Linda and Paul from Philly, and our four new friends from Minnesota; Bev, Brenda, Irene and Pam.
Since it was Valentine Day (and/or week) our nightly chocolates came in the shape of hearts wrapped in red.

Once back to the disembarkation port - San Juan, Puerto Rico, it was off to the Old San Juan Sheraton where we would be spending the night. We were able to get the hotel on priceline for $75 a night. A steal for this beautiful hotel/casino.

After getting checked in, it was time to take a walk around Old San Juan. We always head to the Hard Rock Cafe to add to our pin collection. When its time to eat dinner - off to our favorite Chinese restaurant. San Juan is also a great place to get our exercise in. It does seem like we are in San Juan when they are having holidays or special events and this trip was no different. As you walk around the perimeter of the island, you see the bands, stands set up, food stands to try, etc. San Juan is always a partying place.

And before we head back to the room, we always head to the Raices Fountain.

As we explored the caribbean from island to island, ten ports in 14 days - we hope you have learn something about each of the islands. Some were new to us while others have become boring - but for anyone that hasn't visited any of the islands, the first time is always special. So if you have questions regarding the islands, feel free to email us or drop a question by way of comment and we will try to help you. As far as the Caribbean Princess ship - definitely our favorite Princess ship. Thanks again for taking this journey in the caribbean with us.
